Annual Activities

1995 - The 1st "Stay in School" picnic was held and served underprivileged inner city youth with food, school supplies and gift certificates.

1996 - 2001 Picnic continues as annual event. Attendence grows to over 2,000 participants.

1999 - 1st annual "Back to School Parade"

2000 - 2001 Parade continues as annual event. Parade and community participation increases. Mayor of City of Chicago and local T.V. News celebrities serve as Parade Grand Marshalls.

New Initiatives

2000 - "Hard Work - Smooth Rewards" Grade school children are encouraged to elevate their grade at least one level and upon proof of the increse, CNU issues a gift certificate, books, game tickets, and donated items.

2000 - Establish the "Millennium Scholarship Fund". During the 1st year of the fund, CNU reviewed 12 applications and issued 10 $500 scholarships to college-bound students from underprivileged homes.

2000 - Formulated criteria for CNU Tutoring and Mentoring Program. A program that began in Spring 2002 to tutor youth in education. Please contact us to be screened as a mentor/tutor.
